Lots of athletes forget to think about going up in their shoe size (normally, one needs to go at least one full size bigger). For any activity over an hour, a swelling or lengthening between one and three sizes is possible, which can cause minor injuries due to rubbing or hitting the inside of the shoe.
So, how to choose one’s proper size? In a standing position, there should be a thumb’s width between the end of the shoe and one’s big toe. This will avoid bruised or blackened nails and other injuries.
